WORLD MUSIC EXPLORATION IN GHANAIAN AND WESTERN PERCUSSION
This program introduces students to percussion from West Africa and USA. Students will listen to musical performances that exemplify world beats and traditions and how the traditions of Ghana and the United States Percussion are unique and connected. Beats will be provided by a live percussionist who has lived and performed abroad in several countries. Cultural information will be given about study abroad and language studies. Students will have a chance to play and move with the music.

Luke Swearingen
Luke Swearingen is a local percussionist and educator. He has a bachelor’s degree from WSU and Masters in Music from Cleveland State University. He has studied percussion abroad in the countries of Ghana and Trinidad. He performs for the WSU Modern Dance Ensemble and has performed with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and Canton Symphony Orchestra. He is happy to have reconnected with Wichita Arts Partners as an artist and clinician.
