November 12-14, 2019  The Magic of Mexico

Mexico is so much more than you hear about in the news: boisterous festivals, 16th-century colonial towns, ancient wonders, and some of the kindest people you’ll ever meet. The country also boasts one of the most biodiverse landscapes on Earth, spanning everything from deserts to rainforests to coastal mangroves, and 18,000-foot snowcapped volcanoes. The Magic of Mexico weaves together a vibrant tapestry of the people, places, and everyday life across 18 states in Mexico. From Zacatecas to Chiapas, Oaxaca to Baja California Sur, The Magic of Mexico draws audiences into Mexico’s colorful heart and treats their senses to the sights and sounds of a country that relatively few outsiders get to know. The format includes live orchestra, multiple digital projectors, a 440-square-foot screen, and 100s of images choreographed by Nicholas Bardonnay, photographer & multimedia artist.

January 28-30, 2020  Beethoven Lives Upstairs with Classical Kids Live!

The WSO celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of musical giant, Ludwig van Beethoven, through this collaboration with the theatrical symphony concert series, Classical Kids Live! Beethoven Lives Upstairs tells the story of a young Viennese boy named Christoph, whose father has just died, and the “madman,” Beethoven has taken the room upstairs. The play is underscored by more than 25 excerpts of the composer’s music, performed by the Wichita Symphony, and tells the story of how Christoph comes to understand the genius of Beethoven, the beauty of his music, and the torment of his deafness.

Prior to each concert materials, geared to the theme of the concert, will be made available to assist teachers in preparing the students on the Wichita Symphony website. www.wichitasymphony.org

1 free adult per 20 students.
