A Donut A Day!

I will introduce myself to the students and briefly share how my book, “A Donut A Day,” was inspired by classroom Social Contracts.  I will share how those contract statements enabled me to create daily donut quotes on ways to be kind. This theme helps follow the SEL lessons many schools use across the state. I will open the discussion to the kids and have them share their donut quotes they feel can promote kindness. I will write these on their white boards, and once the kids have had a chance to share, I will give them paper and coloring devices so they can design their own donut. They will then write their favorite donut quote on how they would show kindness. At the end, I will open it up for any student to come share their picture and read their quote.

Artist

Johnna Kolar

Johnna has been a substitute teacher for more than 21 years. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri.  After using a pink spiral notebook to keep track of nearly 400 donut flavors she’s sampled from a local donut shop, Johnna was inspired to write a book of her own. “A Donut A Day” reflects the joy Johnnaradiates in every interaction and serves as a daily reminder to be kind to others and live life to its fullest.
