Courtesy through Folk Dancing

Reinforce the character traits of courtesy and respect through fun and lively dances! Teaching artist Joyce Gedraitis will lead students through a variety of dances that will teach students about other cultures and allow them the opportunity to discover parallels in their daily lives. Students will create their own dance or choreographed movements that demonstrate the characteristics of courtesy and respect that they have learned during the workshop!

Teacher should participate with students. A room large enough for the number of participating students to dance is necessary.

Joyce Gedraitis

Joyce Gedraitis holds a MEd degree from Wichita State University. She has danced with folk dance groups all over the United States and in London, England. During the summer of 2009, Joyce went to Israel where she attended a 10-day summer course in Israeli folk dancing.

Joyce also performs in the duo “World Culture Party.”

We thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful lady. She was able to motivate the students to try something new and teach respect amongst each other. She also chose age-appropriate dances for each grade level group. We thought she was amazing and fun!

The students LOVED this workshop and so did I. I have always been interested in the brain research done with crossing the midline. I am so happy that Joyce gave instruction on the dances as well as a CD of the music. I am using this as morning work each day for the students! I would highly recommend this workshop!
