Janice Burdine Thacker
Janice Burdine Thacker is the perfect speaker for your class. Janice received her B.A. Degree in Art Education from Wichita State University: M. A. degree of Art Education, and Counseling Certification from Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas. Janice has been a lifelong educator, illustrator, printmaker, author, college administer, and community activist for positive change through education. As an art teacher and school counselor she worked in four cities, eleven public schools, and one university as a director of family housing, sponsored numerous activities: student council, art club, modeling club, class sponsor, USD 259 Black History troupe, and African American Male Academy. Over the past seven years, she has founded two new organizations, Art That Touches Your Heart foundation and Black Educators Hall of Fame. Her art is displayed at ninth and hillside Red Bud Bike Path and she was featured in the book Wichita’s /Artist and Their Studios. Currently, she is working on Ruby’s Art District, participated in the Wichita’s Way to Work Program, Fairmount Neighborhood, and Hugo Wall School Summer Steam program at Wichita State University to promote art entrepreneurship and improve the quality of life.
