Storytelling (for K-2nd grade)This performance includes character education stories that teach respect, caring, integrity, responsibility, and self-discipline. Students are introduced to the art of storytelling and African proverbs as the Griots tell stories that entertain, educate, inspire, motivate, uplift, and heal. There are stories about tricksters, relationships and historical characters, stories that are inspirational, humorous, tall tales, folk tales, ghost stories and Appalachian Mountain stories. They all come alive as the Griots perform magical stories, using music, drumming, rap, dance and audience participation to deliver a wonderful presentation of the storytelling art. Teachers can request such themes as African folktales, African-American folktales and character stories that emphasize positive character traits, etc. A microphone is required.
